Here is this week's update.

Shlokas-

We all chanted OM 3 times followed by  shloka

"Om Saha Navavatu" (page 8 in My Prayers book) 

"Sarawathi namasthubhyam" (page 12 in My Prayers book)

Letter C for cleanliness

Cleanliness and what it means to be Clean on the outside and Clean on the Inside. Being free from Dirt, and that which is neat and organized. 

We can be dirty outside, or dirty inside or clean throughout. People would choose to be only friends with those who are clean both inside and outside.

Think no evil  as a way to be clean inside . Cleanliness is Godliness and By being clean inside, we come close to God and have inner happiness and joy!

Take bath/shower to clean the body outside, say prayers with a clean mind to clean the body inside. A clean mind is a sweet mind that will think and do good things.

C is for Courage
What is courage?
Courage means being brave and doing something that is dangerous and taking the risk of getting hurt.  
When can we have courage?

1. When our hearts are pure and righteous then there is no fear- Prahalad story. Although his father tried to scare him so many times, there was no fear in his heart because his heart was pure and full of love for Lord Vishnu. 

   Knowing that you are not alone and need not be afraid because you have support. You are not alone because God is always with you. You are not alone because when you do the right thing other people will support you.

Letter 'D' is for Daddy 

Dad's are "kind," "loving," "caring," "wise," "protective," "strong," We see our father as God, hence we revere them as God.

The Almighty God is our Eternal father and takes care of all of us.

D is for Deepavali/Diwali  celebrated with sparkles, sweets, Diya's, new clothes, visiting family/cousins/friends etc. 

What does Diwali mean?  It means a Row of lights 

It is the biggest festival in India and it is a very colourful festival. The whole country looks like fairy land on Diwali. 

How is Diwali celebrated? 

people decorate their houses with rangoli
everyone exchanges sweets 
diyas are lit in all the houses 
Everyone wears new clothes. 
people burn fire crackers/ fireworks 
people do Lakshmi puja at home and in their offices

 Why do we celebrate Diwali 

1. Return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya.  Lord Rama finished 14 years in the forest and was returning home. All the people lit lamps so that Rama could see his way back. Rama was crowned king when he returned. We are also celebrating the victory of good over evil because Rama won Ravana. (The good won over the bad)
   
   

2. This is also the day that Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk. (So kind of like her birthday)  She brought with her wealth and prosperity for mankind and do you know on Diwali day she comes to everyone's houses. And the reason that we clean the house, make sweets, do rangoli and decorate the house is to Welcome Mother Lakshmi.
   
   

3. This was also the day Krishna won the battle with an asura called Narakasura.

Likhita japa notebooks were distributed and we wrote Ram nama. Parents please send this likhita japa notebook and a pencil to every balavihar session.

We had a short session today because we performed Saraswathy pooja in the temple hall. Our little fingers followed every instruction and did pooja. They all did a great job.

No Class on 10/19, Happy Deepavali/Diwali everyone.

Next balavihar class is Sunday 10/26 and the kids can be dropped off in the class directly before 9.15 am. 

Class Rules and requirements:
1. Children should bring their notebook for likhita japa and writing alphabets. Balavihar handbook, pencils and erasers and crayons. ( Please bring your own items if kids are allergic)
2. Children may bring their own "spill proof water bottles"

NO snacks please. Please give them a good breakfast before coming to Balavihar. Also make sure they use the bathroom before going into the class.
3. Please bring the children to balavihar a few minutes before 9.15. We want to promptly start by 9.15. Please make sure the student is not late and may come latest by 9.20 and not later than that.
