Hari Om Parents,

We are very excited to welcome you and your children to the Balavihar class for the 2025-2026 academic year. We had a shortened class this week due to the extended assembly. We began our class with 3 OMs followed by opening prayers
- Sahana Vavatu
- Vakratunda Mahakaya
- Saraswathi Namastubhyam
- Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
We have provided a copy of these prayers to the children who are new to Balavihar. Please have them practice these shlokas.
We had a round of introductions. The children responded to the following questions - Name, how many years in Balavihar, their favorite hobby/activity, Preferred learning style (visual, linguistic, intrapersonal (working as a group group), Kinesthetic (activities).
This small exercise enabled us to understand the children better and how to keep them engaged in the coming sessions. We then introduced the curriculum for this year.
- Ramayana - The reference book will be Ramayana by C. Rajagopalachari. Here is a link to the book on amazon: Buy the book here. Although not mandatory, the children are welcome to read the book and bring their insights to class discussions.
- Vibhishana Gita - Key to Success.
We gave a brief introduction of Ramayana (Rama + ayana (journey) - Rama's journey). We did an activity where we drew a picture of Lord Rama on the board and the children followed along. Here is a snippet of the drawing.
We asked them what one word came to mind when they thought of Lord Rama. Responses included: brave, dharma, courageous, chill, politics, etc.
