Hari OM Dear Families,

Here is this week's update.

Shlokas-

We all chanted OM 3 times followed by  shloka

"Om Saha Navavatu" (page 8 in My Prayers book) 

We had yoga time after the prayer. We did thoppukaranam, tree pose and jumping jacks (20 counts each). We then had a recap from the last session- extending the point, God is everywhere, we understand that the sky is everywhere and sky is watching us and so is god is everywhere and is watching us.

 LadyBug Search : Kids were asked to find the LadyBug in the Picture provided, with bare eyes we cannot find it,  hence were asked to use the Special Instrument -the Magnifying Glass to help them. They had  fun looking for it.

 We discussed What a Sweet Mind is? And who is a Sweet person?  Kids shared on how they would respond to certain circumstances and whether it was the right response.  And then we discussed, we become Sweet people when we develop a Sweet mind and we develop Sweet Mind when we attain special qualities which we can learn by learning the Vedanta alphabets and start applying it in our life. And we learned that we can See God through a Special Instrument called Sweet Mind! And using our Sweet Mind, we can get Closer to God!

Today's Alphabet

A for Aspiration. This is the determination to reach the goal. We asked the kids what they wanted to be? They gave some beautiful responses :)

Kids wrote upper case A 10 times and gained sticker rewards.

How can we fulfill our aspirations?  

1. Practice and work hard

2. Good attitude - I can , I will.

3. Keep trying and never give up.

We played a simple game to reach their goal, which is to give hi5 to the teachers. When the teachers held their hands up above their heads, it was impossible for the kids to reach. When it was held too low, the kids didn't try but it was easy to reach the palms. But when it was held near their ears, they tried to jump and touch the palms. They made clear that we need to put in hard work to reach our goal.

Story time -We learned how Arjuna always practiced to become the best archer in the world. He always looked at the target. He saw the eye of the bird when his teacher put him to the test. While all the students said they saw everything in the trees, only Arjuna said the right answer with full focus on the bird.

A for Aarti. We also learned how to do Aarti at the end of prayer. 

How to do Arti

• Show them how to hold the Arti plate – straight so the oil does not fall and hold with both hands (we practiced with battery-operated LED diyas and NOT the fire)

• Always clockwise

• Full circle (3 times)

• Do it slowly

• Look at the Arti plate, or at the picture/statue (more at the statue)

• The rest of the body should not move – just the hands

Bhajan time - we learned our house- krishna's cowboys theme song, Hey murali sridhara. The audio file is sent in whatsapp group. Please practice this two line bhajan.

Next balavihar class is next Sunday 9/21 and the kids can be dropped off in the class directly before 9.15 am. Please make kids wear blue or shades of blue since we have house inaugural activities.

Class Rules and requirements:
1. Children should bring their notebook for likhita japa and writing alphabets. Balavihar handbook (we will provide soon) pencils and erasers and crayons. ( Please bring your own items if kids are allergic)
2. Children may bring their own "spill proof water bottles"

NO snacks please. Please give them a good breakfast before coming to Balavihar. Also make sure they use the bathroom before going into the class.
3. Please bring the children to balavihar a few minutes before 9.15. We want to promptly start by 9.15. Please make sure the student is not late and may come latest by 9.20 and not later than that.
