Ramayana – Ayodhya Kāṇḍa Continued
We started with a quick recap of the Ramayana, reviewing all the Kāṇḍas to provide context before continuing Shri Rama's journey into the forest.
Key events discussed included:
Shri Rama requesting the people of Ayodhya to stop near the Ganga River, choosing to continue the forest journey independently
Guha's devotion—building a boat to help Rama cross the river and reverently washing Rama's feet
Sita exploring the forest barefoot, embracing a life of simplicity
Lakshmana building a hut for Rama and Sita to live in
The Chitrakūṭa episode, highlighting Rama's peaceful forest dwelling
King Dasaratha's event with Shravan kumar
We also briefly discussed King Daśaratha's passing following the sorrow of Rama's exile and how Sage Vasiṣṭha summoned Bharata back to Ayodhya, marking a turning point in the unfolding events of the Ayodhya Kāṇḍa.
Through these events, we revisited the purpose of Shri Rama's avatar—to uphold dharma and ultimately destroy Ravana and adharma.
Values from Vibhīṣaṇa Gītā (Vibhīṣaṇa Upadeśam)
We then transitioned to the Vibhīṣaṇa Gītā, beginning with a short recap of its background and purpose. The class discussed the Dharma Ratha concept and focused on the first two virtues:
Shauraja (Courage)
Dheeraja (Fortitude / Steadfastness)
Students reflected on how these qualities help us face challenges calmly and act righteously in daily life.
Mind, Intellect, and Karma
The discussion emphasized that all actions generate karma and highlighted the importance of reducing the gap between the mind and the intellect. We spoke about living an aware and informed life, guided by wisdom and the ability to remain present in the moment.
To reinforce this learning, the class participated in a short meditation, allowing students to experience mental quiet and focus.
Nāma Rāmāyaṇa and Closing
We continued chanting the Nāma Rāmāyaṇa up to the Ayodhya Kāṇḍa, reinforcing the storyline through devotion and rhythm.
The session concluded with Bhagavad Gita chanting – Chapter 15, followed by the closing prayers.
