Krishna Lila

Limbs of Vishnu

We asked the kids will just a finger, or foot or even a person's eyes describe their personality fully. It is only when we put together all the parts that make the individual whole and help us understand them better. Similarly, though Bhagvan is present everywhere; only when we incorporate certain virtues in our personality, we will see God vividly. The limbs of Vishnu have been identified as cows, austerity/puja, truth, physical and mental disciplines, faith, kindness, forbearances and sacrifices. We discussed how each limb can be incorporated in our everyday life.

Celebrating Krishna's Arrival in Gokul

We discussed how the people of Gokul likely welcomed Krishna with great celebration.  While explaining why Rishi Garga named the baby Krishna, Children made happy birthday Krishna cards, we worshipped an idol of Bal Krishna with flowers and light. Sang a bhajan- Bhaja Mane Radhe Govinda ( pg 121) Sweets were distributed to kids.

Putana- She came to kill but received Moksha instead

Krishna was no longer a newborn but a cheerful infant; and miles away Kamsa was getting impatient on finding the identity of the eighth child. He sent Putana, who was known as the killer of infants to find this baby and kill it. The demoness transformed herself into a beautiful woman who came across as someone ready to bless a child. When she reached Nanda's house, she proceeded to feed Krishna her poisoned milk and expected him to be lifeless soon; but to her horror the tiny boy was sucking the life out of her. As villagers of Gokul celebrated her death and set fire to her body; everyone was surprised at the lovely fragrance spreading everywhere. Bhagvan saw her as someone who came to feed him though with a wicked desire. The Lord had the feed and forgave her.

My 24 Teachers
