The class schedule went as follows:
Prayers: Chanting OM 3 times, followed by our Opening Prayers.
Introduction: We introduced ourselves and our favorite activity in Bala Vihar.
Topic of the Day: What is Dharma?
A general discussion of what each of them thought was Dharma and why, followed by a short video of Gurudev explaining the concept.
Story: We covered the family tree of the Kuru clan, and went over the background of how 8800 verses of Jaya composed by Bhagawan Veda Vyasa became 24000 verses of Bharata by Vaishampayana, to ultimately become the 100,000 verses of Mahabharata recounted by Ugrasrava Sauti.
The story of Shantanu, his brief marriage with Ganga, the drowning of the 7 sons (with story of the cursed Vasus) and the eventual reunity with his son Devavrata, the terrible vow taken by Devavrata giving him the name Bheeshma, Shantanu's marriage to the fisherman's daughter Satyavati, their children Chitrangadha and Vichitraveerya, the death of Chitrangadha, the abduction of the 3 Kashi princesses – Amba, Ambika and Ambalika, and finally Amba's curse.
We could not cover Chapter 15 Geeta Chanting due to lack of time and technical issues. This will be covered in subsequent classes.
The next class on September 19th will only be for 45 minutes. The House inaugural ceremony and fun activities and games will take place at the Vrindavan temple. We look forward to an exciting Friday.
