The students were surprised and felt a sense of pride learning that our ancestors made significant contributions to fields such as astronomy, mathematics, and medical science. They were saddened to learn that invading forces destroyed many ancient universities.

They were astonished to discover that the concept of gravity was described in India more than 1,200 years before Sir Isaac Newton, with written records supporting this knowledge. The children also found it unbelievable that Galileo was placed under house arrest for the remainder of his life for stating that the Earth is round.

The students were surprised to learn that the speed of light and the seven colors of light are mentioned in commentaries on the Rigveda. They also learned that Indian contributions went far beyond the concept of zero and included the binary numeral system and decimals.

They were amazed to discover that Sushruta performed cataract surgery and created artificial limbs as early as 2,600 years ago, and were fascinated by some of the surgical tools used at the time. The students also learned that Aryabhata calculated the value of pi thousands of years ago.

Additionally, they learned that Ashtanga Yoga is not limited to physical postures but encompasses much more.

To reinforce these new concepts, we played a Jeopardy game. The game can be accessed here: https://jeopardylabs.com/play/bharats-contributions

The boys performed very well, and the girls shared that they would outperform the boys next time :)
