Hari OM Dear Families,

Here is this week's update.

Shlokas-

We all chanted OM 3 times followed by  shloka

"Om Saha Navavatu" (page 8 in My Prayers book) 

"Sarawathi namasthubhyam" (page 12 in My Prayers book)

We began our session with reviewing A, B, C and D. We discussed how we celebrated Diwali from last week.

Interviewing Daddy activity by the children was a huge hit. They all happily shared their work to the class.

Activity for C- We did an activity with three cups of water, one had dirt on the outside of the cup, the next had inside of the cup and third was dirt free both in and out! The kids told, we must be clean both in and outside of our body, by taking a bath we clean our outside body and saying prayers we clean inside of the body. The clean body is always blessed by God.

Our writing activity included writing alphabets, B,C, D and E 10 times and they were rewarded stickers.

Letter E is for Enthusiasm -is to experience joy and excitement while striving for a goal.

Situations when children feel excited and joyful.

E is for Enthusiasm

Have you heard the word 'Enthusiasm' before? What do you think it means?

Enthusiasm is Determination to achieve something

You have confidence and faith, you can do it: You work hard and you work cheerfully

story - gitu the squirrel

There was once a squirrel called Gitu, who wanted to help in building a sandwall to protect the town from getting flooded. There were sandbags brought on elephants and donkeys back. But little Gitu wanted to enthusiastically help in building the sandwall. Gitu started rolling on the ground from one to the other corner and shook his body, some sand fell as she shook his body and created a pile. Like this he did more than one hundred times and gradually created more piles of sand which was used to build the wall. Gitu in all excitement and tirelessly worked hard to help the town. Gitu showed full enthusiasm cheerfully.

Activity for enthusiasm - the class was divided into three groups and each group were given three colors of construction sheets and were asked to separate colorwise. All the three groups with enthusiasm separated colorwise and were excited to do so.

E for Earth

In Hinduism we consider many things as our mother, and earth is one of them. How is earth our mother? She bares plants, which is the basis of all our food. And supports us, etc. Anything and everything we use in our life comes from Mother Earth.

So how can we care for Mother Earth? Reuse, Recycle, Reduce, Don't waste food, water and any other resources we get from Earth.

We can also show gratitude to mother Earth. Do you know what the classical dancers do before their recital? They always pray to Mother Earth. How do they do it? They touch the earth as though asking for permission to step on the earth.

We then headed to the temple hall for Arti and pledge.

Next balavihar class is Sunday 11/02 and the kids can be dropped off in the class directly before 9.15 am. 

Class Rules and requirements:
1. Children should bring their notebook for likhita japa and writing alphabets. Balavihar handbook, pencils and erasers and crayons. ( Please bring your own items if kids are allergic)
2. Children may bring their own "spill proof water bottles"

NO snacks please. Please give them a good breakfast before coming to Balavihar. Also make sure they use the bathroom before going into the class.
3. Please bring the children to balavihar a few minutes before 9.15. We want to promptly start by 9.15. Please make sure the student is not late and may come latest by 9.20 and not later than that.
