Hari Om Parents,

We started our class with 3 OM and the following shlokas and prayers

• Sahana Vavatu
• Vakratunda Mahakaya
• Saraswathi Namastubhyam
• Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu
• Samastha Jana Kalyane
• Chanted Mahalakshmi Ashtakam -  verses # 2 & 3 (Page 40 in My Prayers book) - Aadhya M and Ankita led the chanting while the whole class followed them
  
• We also practiced the Chinmaya Aarti 

Gita Chanting:
This year, we will be learning Chapters 15 and 12 of the Bhagavad Gita. This week, the class chanted Chapter 15's verses 7 & 8:

Mahabharata:

We chanted the following prayers before starting the Mahabharata:

• Narayanam namaskritya
• Vyasaya Vishnu roopaya
• Vasudevasutam devam

1. King Pandu decides to go to the forest with his two wives, Kunti and Madri, due to a curse from a sage. They have five children, using the boon granted by sage Durvasa. Dharmaraja, Bheema, and Arjuna were born to Kunti, while Nakula and Sahadev were born to Madri. Unfortunately, both King Pandu and Madri die in the forest. At which time Kunti, along with the five Pandavas, came back to Hastinapur.
2. Meanwhile, in Hastinapur, Gandhari also becomes pregnant, but learning that Kunti had a child before her, she grew jealous and started beating her pregnant stomach. When the unborn fetus was expelled from her body, sage Veda Vyasa came and divided the expelled fetus into 101 pieces. Later, they were born as 100 Kauravas along with one sister, Duryodhana being the eldest among them.
3. The Kauravas were always jealous of the Pandavas, especially Bheema, since he was very strong. Duryodhana would come up with different schemes to try to kill Bheema. Bheema survived all the attempts to kill him and, in fact, became stronger.
4. Yudhisthira was eventually anointed as the Crown Prince. Duryodhana and the Kauravas, along with Dhritharastra, plan to kill the Pandavas. Dhritarashtra asks the Pandavas to go to Varanavata. There, they built a wax palace, in which they wanted to burn the Pandavas while they were sleeping. Vidura found out about this evil plan and warned Yudhishthira to be vigilant. One night, Pandavas, along with Kunti, escape from the wax palace through a tunnel into the forest after setting the palace on fire. Everyone thinks the Pandavas died in the palace fire. Duryodhana and the Kauravas were very happy.
5. In the forest, Bheema kills rakshasa Hidimba and later marries his sister Hidimbi. Ghatojkacha is eventually born to them. They live in Eka Chakra Puram in the disguise of brahmins upon the advice of sage Veda Vyasa. In that village to protect the host family, Bheema goes upon Kunti's order and kills rakshasa Bhakaasura.

Saraswati Pooja:

Due to the Sarasawti Pooja, the "India, the Sacred Land" topic was not covered. Students performed the Shodashopachara pooja under the guidance of the Temple priest, Krishna ji.

Parents, please send your kids on time to class to avoid disruptions to the class. Also, have them bring the decorated name tags to the classes. Please make sure children bring in My Prayers book, handbook, notebook, pencils, etc (to take notes, do activities in the class)
