Hari Om Parents,
We started our class by writing Likhita japa of Om along with chanting. This would help children to settle down in class before we begin the class then followed by opening prayers (Sahana vavatu).
We learnt three things
1. Who is God?
2. Where is God?
3. What does God do?
We heard an interesting story as below and made the children enact the same making every one be a character. As the story progressed we made kids do it as a play.
In a faraway land there was a king who was very noble and he believed in god and his minister who was devoted to the king also believed in god and was always teaching and preaching the scriptures. The king had a prince who became the crown prince post the king. The prince who was ruling now didn't believe in god and didn't understand why these scriptures were taught. He called the minister and told him that he would give 41 days to prove to him the three things- Who is god/Where is god/What does god do?
Minister had faith in god but didn't know how to prove this. He travelled across the country asking everyone he met but he didn't find an answer enough to explain to the king.
When he came home his faithful cook saw him tired and told him about the three questions. Cook gave him food, pressed his feet and asked him to rest. The minister was tired and after eating fell asleep. The cook went to the king and said I will answer the questions which you asked instead of my master. The king was curious to know and asked him to go ahead.
The cook said if you want to know the answers then you need to sit in my place and I will sit in yours. The king was eager hence agreed and sat down and the Cook sat on the throne.
For your first question the Cook asked to bring Brown cow, green grass and a pail of white milk. The king ordered the same. The cook said to the king – God is that person/brahman who can make brown cows eat grass and who gives us white milk.
For your second question the cook asked to bring a lamp. The cook lit the lamp and took everyone into a dark room and held it high up. Cook then said this is where light- is the king said everywhere. The cook then said God is also everywhere.
For your third question let's go back- at the same time the minister came running and fell on his knees and told the king I'm so sorry I was tired and fell asleep I don't know what my cook is doing here.
The cook then replied- god is someone who can make a king sit down, cook sit on throne and minister on his knees. The king smiled and thanked the cook and the minister.
Our next question to children was How to see the god who is everywhere. Little ones came up with interesting answers like in temple, in pictures etc.
We asked everyone to hide and asked if there was air where you were hiding. They said yes. We asked where the air- they said up outside and then we asked how do we breathe and what do we breathe they all said air. Then we conclude so is god everywhere and how do we see god, we can see god with help of doing good things and prayers. We asked them to color a ladybug and find the lady bug in the animal's picture which they could not. So also god is not easy nor difficult to find, we just need to do right and good things. Our alphabet safari is a simple and easy way to learn a few right/good things.
What is a good thing and what is a bad thing- we asked few questions like
Is listening to teachers or parents a good thing or bad thing?
Is hitting your friend a good /bad thing?
Is organizing the toys you played with a good/bad thing?
We have given children 4 paper cut outs- a name to write and stick on their folder along with Krishna print out. Ladybug print-out which they colored and the alphabet safari picture which they need to color. Please make sure they bring it in the next class.
