Oct 26, 2024 - Grade 6 (Sunday PM)

Hari Om Parents

In the last class we learnt about the Kauravas attacking the Northern Side of the Matsya kingdom. Prince Uttara takes the help of Brihannala (Arjuna in disguise). Ajuna reveals himself and his brothers and their identities. He destroys the opponent army. Duryodhana immediately recognizes the might of Arjuna and is elated that they have found their identity and that they will now have to spend another 12 years in the forest. Bhishma reminds him that the Pandavas had already served their time successfully

Today's class started with prayers as usual.
We started the class with a small quiz on the names of Arjuna.

Continuation of Virata parva.
  • Upon hearing the news that his son Uttara defeated Kaurava army, King Virata plans for a grand welcome for his son.
  • He invites Kanaka (Dharmaraja in disguise) for a game of dice. Kanaka advises him that he should not gamble in a state of extreme joy and reminds him of the plight of Yudhishtra.
  • When King Virata proudly exclaims his sons victory over mighty Kauravas, Kanaka reveals to him the truth that it was indeed Brihannala who fought behind Uttara and defeated the opponent.
  • Angered by this comment, the King throws the dice at Kanaka causing his nose to bleed.
  • Sairandiri (draupadi in disguise)  brings a golden jug of water so the blood falls into it instead of the floor.
  • Meanwhile the prince and Brihannala enter the palace. Uttara on finding out the cause of Kanaka's plight, reprimands his father that he had committed a grave mistake and that he should beg for forgiveness.
  • Third day of returning from war, pandavas dressed in their original attire, come to the court and Yudhishtra sits on the king's throne. Virata is furious to see this, at which point Aruja reveals the identity of Kanaka and the rest of the brothers.
  • Viraka king apologizes and offers his entire kingdom. Yudhishtra declines the offer politely. Instead Arjuna asks King Virata;s daughter's hand in marriage to his son Abhimanyu.
  • Their wedding is attended by kings from far and near including Krishna and Balaram.
  • This ended Virata Parva.
Udyoga Parva

  • After the wedding, Pandavas now face the dilemma of peace or war. Krishna suggests that they send a messenger to Hastinapura with a message of peace and if they dont agree then they will resort to other means
  • Duryodhana gets the whiff of this meeting and starts his preparation for war by reaching out to his allies. Pandavas also begin to do the same
  • Both Duryodhana and Arjuna reach Dwaraka at the same time to seek Krishna;s help
  • Because Krishna was asleep, Arujna obediently sits by his feet while Duryodhana sat near his head.
  • Once he wakes up he greets both of them and asks the reason for their visit to which both of them request him to join their side of the army
  • Krishna was in a fix but very cleverly says that since he saw Arjuna first he would like to ask him a question.
  • He then asks Arjuna if he would prefer that he gets a 100 millon army or just himself with no arms.
  • Arjuna with utmost devotion and conviction chose just him over the army.
  • The ignorant Duryodhana underestimating the power of the Lord is more than happy with the futile army.
  • Arjuna fully aware that Krishna is capable of destroying everyone, he said he wanted to single handedly destroy everyone and attain the same stature of Krishna. Thus he requests him to become his charioteer to which Lord Krishna gladly agrees.

There is an attachment of the lineage of the Pandavas and Kauravas. Please share it with the kids.
